It's the reverse-Fortune magazine curse!
Amazon.com announced an exciting new service today. Amazon "Pages" and "Upgrade" are going to change the way books are purchased and read. Amazon "Pages" allows customers to buy whole books or just chapters in digital format for immediate reading. "Upgrade" allows customers who purchase the physical copy of the book to read a digital version anywhere in the world, provided they have web access. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos brought up a use for "Upgrade" which seems to me to be one of the few benefits of this program as of this point in time. He pointed out that software engineers, for example, are the types of customers who would want to purchase a physical book, keep a copy at home or at the office, and then have access to a digital copy at any jobsite in the world.
I know that I would have no use for a digital copy of a book for recreational purchases, but as a student, keeping a digital copy for reference after you sell your physical version could prove to be very useful and worth the few extra dollars. What do you think? Especially if you are a student like me who last semester recieved NOTHING back for my books at the end of April.
